I'm a Grammy-winning producer, engineer, and multi-instrumentalist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I'm credited on hundreds of recordings by a diverse group of artists, including Run DMC, Billy Idol, Merle Haggard, the Donnas, Third Eye Blind, and Kimya Dawson. I've also created mixes for Molotov, Laura Pausini, Korn, Chumbawumba, Tom Tom Club, and many other artists.
In the last few years I've worked with a number of international rock and pop stars. In 2012 I received a Latin Grammy (Rock Album of the Year) for Molotov's Platinum-selling Desde Russia Con Amor. I produced Fobia's Destruye Hogares, a #1 album that went Gold. I've also worked with Italian super-producer Corrado Rustici, mixing Noemi's Rosso Noemi (double Platinum), Laura Pausini's Inedito (triple Platinum, and a #1 hit in five countries), and an upcoming release by Luciano Ligabue, Italy's top rock star. It's been enlightening to expand my horizons and to find that hip, fashion-forward artists possessing a passion and creativity often missing from mainstream U.S. music these days abound on all corners of the globe!
What's my approach to working with such a diverse group of artists? Like any good producer, I try to help them say what they need to say, and to express it as clearly and as passionately as possible. Sometimes that means challenging established artists and not letting them rest on their laurels and pushing new artists into places they've never been. I love juxtaposing a great pop song with edgier, fucked-up sounds. So many classic records wouldn't be classics at all if every element was perfectly in place. Those albums we love have attitude. Emotion and character. A feel of chaos. The elements I try to bring to every project I work on.
